Amla Açai Bowl

An açai bowl featuring a plethora of fruits, granola, oats, and chia seeds.
Give your açai bowl an extra health boost with a whirl of amla, also known as Indian gooseberry. This nourishing amla açai bowl is blended into a thick smoothie-like consistency for a healthy way to cool off this summer. Amla, indigenous to South Asia, is a unique fruit with an eclectic yet harmonious flavor profile of tart sourness and sweet undertones with a welcome hint of bitterness. Whole and sliced amla can be found frozen at many Indian grocery stores. This superfood boasts more than 8 times the amount of vitamin C as an orange and twice the antioxidant power of açai berries, among many other health benefits. In addition to its immune-supporting qualities, amla is known to promote healthy aging of the skin and hair. Combined with açai, this bowl packs an abundance of key nutrients to support and nourish your body from the inside out.

Amla Açai Bowl

Serves: 2
Total time: 15 minutes
Special equipment: blender or food processor

Ingredients

  • 2 packages unsweetened frozen açai puree
  • ½ frozen banana, sliced
  • ½ cup frozen berries
  • ¼ cup frozen amla, seeded
  • ¼ cup coconut water
  • 1 tsp raw honey, to taste
  • Toppings of choice: seasonal fruit, seeds and nuts, granola, coconut flakes, nut butter, mint

Instructions

Prior to beginning, place your serving bowl in the freezer to prevent melting the amla açai mixture upon contact.

In a high-powered blender, add the açai puree, banana pieces, berries, amla, milk preference, and honey.

Blend on medium speed until smooth and thick, though not runny. If needed, add more coconut water a tablespoon at a time, stopping in between each addition to prevent your amla açai bowl from turning into a smoothie. You can also add a touch more honey to your liking.

Pour the mixture into your chilled bowl, add your toppings, and serve immediately.
